Unfortunately, some of these servers feel frustrated when they discover their customers did not leave a tip before they leave the restaurant.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a video that has gone viral, a restaurant server named <em><strong>Lillie<\/strong><\/em>, known on TikTok as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@mylasoasis_\"><em>@mylasoasis_<\/em><\/a>, boldly declared that if customers are not prepared to tip their servers, then perhaps they should not dine out, or rather, eat in a restaurant that does not require tips.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2732\" src=\"http:\/\/gtgoodtimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/pic1-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"710\" height=\"666\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gtgoodtimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/pic1-4.jpg 710w, https:\/\/gtgoodtimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/pic1-4-300x281.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 710px) 100vw, 710px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The video garnered over 10,000 views, and it sparked debate online. Lillie boldly declared her stance and did not hesitate to send the message across.<\/p>\n<p>She looked into the camera and said: <em>\u201cEating out is a privilege, not a right. If you can\u2019t spare a 20% tip, maybe you shouldn\u2019t be dining out.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She pointed out the financial challenges restaurant servers face due to a lack of fixed salaries. Lillie also mentioned the debated topic of tipping customs in U.S. restaurants. She also touched on the widespread concerns that restaurant servers should receive a fixed wage. She pointed out the situation of over 1.6 million food servers around the country.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYou can argue all day that my employer should pay me more, but that\u2019s not how things work here in America,\u201d<\/em> she said. <em>\u201cI earn a mere $3.63 from my restaurant. The bulk of my income? The affordability of the dishes is such since customers are expected to tip their servers.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYour meal is priced lower because you\u2019re expected to tip on it,\u201d<\/em> she explained. <em>\u201cIf tipping isn\u2019t in your budget, perhaps it\u2019s best to opt for takeout or even a trip to McDonald\u2019s.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Her video\u2019s caption clearly sends the message: <em>\u201cFor those suggesting we should earn more per hour\u2026 that\u2019s not our reality. Choosing not to tip only diminishes your dining experience.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As expected, netizens\u2019 opinions were divided. This stance is a bit much.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, some netizens understood the situation and stayed in Lillie\u2019s corner.<\/p>\n<p>One supporter commented: <em>\u201cIf you\u2019re against tipping because you believe employers should offer fair wages, then make it a point to support businesses that uphold that standard.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Another server shared their perspective: <em>\u201cI get just $2.13 an hour, and we don\u2019t even see regular paychecks.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, some believe that while tipping is not mandatory, it should depend on the quality of service. <em>\u201cI\u2019m consistent with a 20% tip or more. While other countries believe tipping in restaurants is optional, restaurants in the U.S. largely operate on the tipping system. Restaurant servers rely on service charges and tips from customers. Additionally, servers are strongly suggesting higher wages for staff. Although the system may be beneficial for some, it can be stressful for many other restaurant servers who rely on the customers\u2019 generosity in providing tips.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>On behalf of thousands of other servers in the U.S., Lillie\u2019s video definitely shared what many others wanted to voice out.
