Sadly, some dogs take a long time to find their forever homes. Although many people say everything happens at the right time, no dog at the shelter should stay that long without finding a loving family.
One dog at a shelter waited for almost 3 years for a family to adopt him. His name was Billy Bob, and he was almost 9 years old. Potential parents constantly pass him by and never give him a second glance. They did not notice the lovable pup who was silently yearning for a forever home. For almost 1,000 days, the concrete enclosure is the only place he calls his home. For what seemed like forever, Billy Bob’s wait suddenly took an unexpected turn for the better.
In April 2021, Billy Bob arrived at the League for Animal Welfare animal shelter in Batavia, Ohio. A rescue group in West Virginia was shut down for cruelty and neglect, and Billy Bob was one of the dogs saved from the shelter. When he arrived at the shelter in Ohio, he was terrified of everything around him. The shelter staff started to wonder what he had been through, but later, never thought about it again.
“When he arrived at the League, he was terrified – scared to walk on a leash; scared to come to people; slunk down to make himself small so nobody could see him,” a staff member of the League for Animal Welfare shelter wrote in their Facebook post.
Fortunately, a loving foster family from the shelter took Billy Bob home, where he lived for a year. There, he realized that not all humans were cruel. Although his condition was improving, he was still fearful and shy and was not doing well when meeting new people.
Billy Bob spent the next 2 years in the shelter since his foster family could not keep him any longer. The shelter staff was hoping to find a forever home for Billy very soon. Unfortunately, it did not happen, and Billy stayed in the shelter for 1,000 days. Amid all the loud barks and wagging tails, Billy Bob was never noticed by potential parents.
After staying at the shelter for 3 years, Billy Bob was almost 9 years old. The shelter staff was hoping to find the senior pup a loving home soon. No dog should stay too long at a shelter, especially a senior dog.
One day, Billy Bob’s luck turned for the better when something unexpectedly happened. Billy Bob was adopted on St. Patrick’s Day!
Billy Bob, the Pittie who used to be frightened of everything, finally found a forever home and a loving parent who is willing to help him ease up and who will love him forever. Bobbers, as he is fondly called, is loving his new family, his forever home, and his furry sibling, Oakley.
Bobbers is very happy and loves playing with his sibling. After all, he has been through, he deserves to enjoy life to the fullest and have many more years with his new family.
