So many stray dogs struggle to survive wandering the streets. They would go on for days without eating proper food, and the scraps they find are usually not enough to satisfy their hunger. Most of these strays try to eat anything worth having in sheer desperation to survive. Sadly, excess malnutrition can leave these poor beings in a horrible state.
A malnourished dog who was living off twigs and rocks for a long time was rescued by staff members of a shelter.
As soon as the Southern Animal Organization was alerted about a malnourished dog living on the streets of New Orleans, they immediately rushed to the scene. When they arrived, they were shocked at what they encountered. A Weimaraner mix, whom they named Alex, has almost starved to death and hardly moving around.
They rushed him to the Vermilion Parish’s Rabies Animal Control for a thorough check-up. His x-ray revealed the most heartbreaking scene. Alex has been eating rocks and twigs on the streets to survive. Additionally, he was only 43 pounds. It was the most devastating thing that can happen to a dog.
Fortunately, Alex has been rescued, and his days wandering the streets are finally over. He will be receiving all the help he needs. He is now in good hands and will be recovering completely.
On his journey to recovery, Alex was accompanied by a woman named Diane Lundeen. When she brought him to foster care, she knew it was only a tentative solution for Alex while he recovered. As weeks passed, they formed a bond, and Diane knew she had to adopt him. During his time with her, his weight increased rapidly. Additionally, his mood shifted in a better way. He has transformed from a depressed stray dog trying to survive the streets to a happy and playful pup in a few weeks.
Alex began spending more time with his doggie siblings. They would play in the backyard, especially during the snowy season. It is so touching to know stories about starving stray dogs who got the help they so deserved, and in times they needed it the most. Alex is enjoying every moment with his family and finally lives in his forever home.
All is well that ends well. ❤️
