A Husky is Deemed a Hero When She Found a Newborn Baby Left Wrapped in Blankets in a Park

Dogs will always be “man’s best friend.” They are pure-hearted creatures born to love and protect. It was proven when a Husky named Hel found an abandoned hours-old baby in a park in Birmingham, England. His owner, Terry Walsh, believes it was a miracle that led Hel to find the baby, not his instincts. He claims Hel was “sent from heaven to rescue a newborn baby boy.”

Terry recalls he and Hel were taking a walk one Thursday afternoon when the Husky approached and sniffed out a pile of blankets in a park. Hel led his owner to his discovery. When Terry unwrapped the pile of cloth, he found a sleeping newborn baby boy. Terry said that if Hel had not been with him that day, he would have walked past the blanket and not thought anything of it. He thought that it was only a pile of rolled-up blankets that were discarded.

“I turned round to grab hold of Hel, so she didn’t walk over the glass, and she went off to the blanket, lying next to it, and started nudging it with her nose very gently,” he explains.

Promptly, the baby woke up and started crying when Hel gently nudged the pile of blankets. “Suddenly, I heard this baby cry,” Terry Walsh said in an interview with Birmingham Live. “I think it was Hel’s gentle nudging and the heat from my Husky’s body that woke the baby up. A bigger dog or another dog with a different temperament might well have just ripped and tugged at the blanket, and the baby could have been treated like a rag doll, and then you’ve also got the foxes and the rats and everything in there. How would they treat a baby?”

Terry immediately notified the authorities, who arrived on the scene on time. He informed them the baby was found in an area known as The Mounds On Shannon Road. Since then, Hel has been deemed a hero, with many calling for him to be awarded a medal or to be given any mark of honor.

The baby boy was found in good health and believed to be just hours old. He was immediately brought to the hospital, where he was given the name George.

“He is doing really well and is being well cared for,” a statement by the local police department read.

The authorities searched for the child’s mother, who is assumed to need immediate medical attention hours after giving birth. The search for the baby’s mother went on for months. Authorities insisted she needed to be identified so they could check on her well-being.

8 months passed, and she was finally identified. “We are ensuring that she gets the appropriate support and care she needs,” Authorities said. Additionally, they asked the public not to make any judgments or comments about the incident.

“As stated in our public appeals, our priority was always to ensure Mom was safe and supported. We can confirm that no further action will be taken by us, and, with partners, we are ensuring that she is getting the appropriate support and care she needs,” the police statement read. “This is a very upsetting case. We would ask you not to speculate any further, as this is deeply distressing for those concerned.”
