Everyone dreams of having their own home. It is essentially one of the most significant investments an individual can make. One has a sense of fulfillment once they live in their own home.
Iona Stewart and Martin Hill, a couple from Britain who loves the outdoors, decided to ditch the idea of a traditional home and took the path towards acquiring their dream mobile home.
They began to put their plans into action by purchasing a shabby container truck for a mere $4,500.00. The couple loves the great outdoors and wanted a home that would suit their desire for traveling. They wanted a mobile abode that was cozy, a place where they could unwind while they embarked on adventures everywhere they went.
While having a couple of drinks, the couple found an old bread delivery truck on eBay, which was priced at approximately $4,500.00. Hence, the idea of transforming the truck into a personalized dream home on wheels was born.
The couple began to transform the container truck into a comfortable mobile home. With a substantial amount of effort, creativity, and a budget to cover all costs – $25,000 to be precise – they were well on their way to fulfilling their dream.
Martin went full force on the laborious renovation work, while Iona brought her interior designing expertise to the project. The couple spent 4 months of full-time work to transform the grubby truck into their dream home. When the mobile home was finally ready for travel, Martin and Iona embarked on their first journey, and their first stop was in France. They enjoyed the various spectacles as they traveled across mountains and plains.
The view from outside may seem like their mobile home is just an ordinary container truck, which has been painted solid gray, and a couple of windows that belong to a regular container van. However, Iona’s job doing the interiors has really paid off, and their mobile home stands out from the others.
Upon entering the couple’s mobile home, you will instantly be greeted by a fully furnished kitchen, complete with a full-size oven and stove, a compact fridge, and storage cabinets. The farmhouse sink and butcher block countertops bring a touch of fine artistry to the area.
Iona did an excellent job incorporating storage in the most proficient ways since the truck had limited space. She ensured every inch of space was utilized efficiently, and creating storage solutions was necessary.
Beside the kitchen is the cozy lounge space or “living room.” When the cold weather kicks in, a wood stove that was installed capable of heating the entire area will do its work. A comfortable futon-style sofa can be used as a resting space while additional storage has been situated above the sofa. A small coffee table fronting the sofa can be used as a dinner table or for working on a laptop.
Ascending some steps onto a “mezzanine” is Iona and Martin’s bedroom, which has a handmade natural wood bed, a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe, and storage cabinets above the bed.
A small space in the corner of the truck is a compact bathroom, complete with a corner sink, a caddy rack for bathroom accessories, and a toilet. It also doubles as a shower, with a composting toilet eliminating sewage concerns. The bathroom has a sliding pocket door that separates it from the living room area.
The couple’s mobile home is adorned with artistic decor, which reflects their styles. Martin and Iona are enjoying their nomadic lifestyle, exploring the mountains of France. They intend to continue their travels and thoroughly mesmerize each spectacle before their return to their hometown in the UK.
The couple’s unique mobile home and traveling lifestyle inspire everyone to “think outside the box” when fulfilling their dream of wandering the world in the comforts of their own home. ❤️
