A Good Samaritan Gives Water to a Dehydrated Dromedary Camel that Fainted on the Roadside of an Algerian Sahara Desert

Nowadays, the heatwave has struck around the world due to intense global warming. Locals from various countries feel that summer is getting longer, and temperatures are rising more every day. Even Algeria, a desert country in North Africa, has been hit by the heatwave and was not spared despite being known as a country of hot weather. Not only the locals can no longer bear the scorching heat, but also the animals that roam in the desert. Although animals, such as camels, are known for wandering the desert under the scorching hot weather, they can no longer bear the heatwave.

When a driver of a water truck happened to be traveling the desert road, he noticed a dromedary camel that was dehydrated and lying on the roadside. He did not hesitate to stop and lend a helping hand. The camel was suffering from heat stroke.

Foreign media reported that a video from Reddit that went viral aroused various reactions from netizens, most of whom praised him for being a good Samaritan and a savior of the fainted camel. Algeria was hit by an intense heatwave at 60°C (140°F). A water truck driver was driving by the Sahara Desert when he noticed a motionless dromedary camel at the roadside. According to the passing driver, the camel was affected by the intense heat. It must have felt dizzy from the scorching hot weather and fainted on the roadside.

The truck driver could not bear seeing the camel in such a state. After parking the truck on the side of the road, he got out and brought a bottle of water. Fortunately, the camel was still conscious when he approached it and was able to raise its head towards the driver. Reeling from the intense heat of the sun, the camel instantly drank the water from the bottle held by the driver. For a camel known to be roaming the hot desert, a drop of water was as precious as rain.

Within a few seconds, the dromedary camel consumed the entire bottle of water. It was able to raise its head and looked at the driver as though expressing its gratitude. It seemed to be more energetic and refreshed the camel could sit upright.

Dromedaries are one of the species of camels that have lived in the desert since ancient times. The various species of camels can adapt to extreme heat and cold, with temperature changes between day and night. Additionally, they can stand for long periods without water. However, they could no longer stand the heatwave that struck globally. This shows how serious the impact of global warming is on animals, even camels that are known to roam the desert under the heat of the sun.

Netizens on Reddit expressed various emotions after watching the short video clip.

“It was so heartbreaking to watch! 😢

“Even animals that can live in extreme environments can’t stand the heatwave.”

“Even camels suffered from heatstroke and dehydration.”

“How long has it been thirsty?”

“Fortunately, a passing water truck driver gave it water.”

“It feels like this bottle of water is not enough for it.”

“Thank you for lending a helping hand. I hope the camel felt better.”
