Hollywood celebrity Keanu Reeves is known for his iconic roles in “The Matrix,” “John Wick,” and “Speed,” among others. Most people agree that the superstar not only has superb acting skills but also has a big heart. He is famous for his action-packed films and approachable personality and has recently shown a side of him that a young fan in Houston will remember for a lifetime.
Anette Cruz, a grandmother who has a fondness for meeting celebrities, calls her encounters “fishing.” Until one day, a chance encounter became an experience she and her grandsons will never forget.
Along with her grandsons, Anette took their chances in meeting Keanu and his band, Dogstar, while they were in town for a concert. The energy and anticipation from fans were high while they waited outside the House of Blues concert venue, especially Anette’s grandsons, who were eagerly waiting to get their memorabilia autographed by the Hollywood star.
As Keanu and his band arrived, the young boys were surprised to see him with slightly graying hair. They admit to not recognizing him at first. The boys have seen his films and were taken aback upon seeing Keanu with a different hair color, in contrast to the long and dark locks they have seen in his film, “John Wick.”
However, excitement took over when they recognized the “Speed” superstar. While the 2 boys managed to get their memorabilia signed by Keanu, 9-year-old Elijah had another wish in mind.
Being a football enthusiast, Elijah wanted to play “catch” with his favorite celebrity. With a football in hand and a spark of hope in his eyes, he gathered his courage to ask Keanu for his request. His response? A heartwarming “yes” without hesitating.
For the next 30 seconds, passersby witnessed a scene they did not encounter every day: a young boy and superstar Keanu Reeves tossing a football back and forth near the concert venue.
Recalling his unforgettable experience, Elijah shared his initial nervousness playing with Keanu to KHOU 11: “I was really nervous… because um, I was playing catch with a famous superstar.”
According to Elijah, that brief moment was the best 30 seconds of his life. There was more. The Hollywood celebrity complimented Elijah on his impressive spiral throws, a memory that Elijah will cherish for a lifetime. Undoubtedly, Keanu is a very down-to-earth guy!
Elijah’s brother, Caleb, had his share of memorable moments with the superstar. Although he did not join his brother and Keanu on the impromptu football catch, Caleb managed to take a selfie with the “John Wick” star. This is one souvenir that he will cherish for years to come from their brief yet unforgettable encounter.
Holding on to the football he and Keanu played with, Elijah intended to treasure the memorabilia and the 30-second playtime forever. It will always serve as a symbol of an extraordinary day.
