Catey Hall returned to her hometown to visit her parents. Several times when she arrived, her father would be taking a nap on the couch, but he was often not alone. The neighbors’ dogs would be snuggling up to him while they nap. When photos of Catey’s father sleeping with the dogs were shared on social media, they instantly went viral and melted the hearts of netizens.
Lon Watson, Catey’s father, has always loved dogs and works with a rescue organization, Pound on the Hill. Additionally, he loves playing with the dogs in the neighborhood. Whenever they see Ron’s car arrive at home, they would excitedly run to him and follow him inside the house. He doesn’t mind taking a nap with the furbabies while they snuggle up on the couch.
“Dad sees, plays with, and naps with one or more of these dogs on a daily basis,” Catey said. “They come running when they see his car and follow him inside.”
Actually, there are 4 rescue dogs in Lon’s house. Plus, another 4 dogs from the neighbors’ houses come to visit him every 3 days. Lon says that his house is lively every day. Seeing that the dogs are excited to interact with Lon, Catey’s dad seems to love the furbabies as his own children!
“For as long as I can remember, my dad has rescued stray dogs,” Catey said. “Growing up, we always had a dog. But there was always room for a stray in need. Now that he lives alone with his wife, there’s room for several. They work with rescues in the area to find homes for the dogs in need; however, not all of them are re-homed, and they stay with dad forever.”
Catey revealed that the neighborhood around her parent’s home is a semi-rural area. Most of the houses are far from the main roads, so the dogs are free to run around the neighborhood. Most of the time, they run to Lon’s house, and the neighbors don’t mind. They are allowed to play at his home and have fun!
“The neighborhood is an unincorporated section of semi-rural Alabama. The houses are set far back from the street, so the dogs can bounce from house to house safely,” Catey said. “The dogs can usually hear my dad’s truck coming, and they will meet him in the driveway.”
The happiness between dogs and humans is evident through their interactions. Seeing Lon and the dogs snuggling up to each other while they are asleep makes everyone feel warm and cozy. “As a matter of fact, they try to leave with Dad when he’s here visiting,” Catey said.
