Honoring a Dog who Served His Country from the First Day He Joined the Police Department Until He Passed Away

K9 police dogs are hardworking and are trained well until they are ready to be deployed. They contribute so much to just a few years of duty. However, most of these K9s are partnered with a human police officer, and when they are killed in the line of duty, the pain they feel for the loss is similar to losing a family member.

In 2020, a police officer shared comparison photos of a black Labrador that started his first day of work as a puppy and when he passed away in the line of duty years later, captioning his post as The First and Last Days of Police Dogs on the Job on social media. A black Labrador puppy is welcomed by a police officer on his first day on the job. Shaking his paw as a sign of welcome, the pup looks very endearing and innocent but ready to be trained.

Through the years, the police dog contributed diligence to the force, and the entire department has become his family. However, the K9 was injured in the line of duty and passed away after a few hours, which saddened the police force. He was given a ceremony honoring his life as a police dog. Handlers covered him with the national flag, and each member of the department paid their last respects to the K9. His partner gave the final ‘farewell’ and kissed his head, sending him on his journey to the rainbow bridge.

Police dogs are K9s that serve under the police force. They are recognized as the “silent comrades.” These dogs undergo rigorous training as a puppy until they are fully grown and ready to be deployed. They are equivalent to full-fledged police officers. When they die in the line of duty or pass away due to old age, funeral ceremonies are held the same as those of police officers who died in the line of duty. An honorable ceremony will be held, and the K9s will be placed in coffins with the national flag.

Netizens who have watched documentary videos on the internet about these honorable k9s can’t help but shed a tear when the police dog passed away:

“I thought the last day at work was to spend time at home with his master for retirement.”

“It’s too late to retire and enjoy happiness…😢

“The silent warrior completed his life gloriously.”

“It’s so heart-wrenching! 😢

“Complete the mission and go back to live a happy life. Be careful.”

“Dogs are always a man’s most loyal and best friends. ❤️
